@Vateir Lots and lots of meth.

@freshprince512 It helps preserve the illusion that Ukraine's winning if the clubs are full. But maybe they're just rich kids.

@dacream_reaper0493 But they're not sending enough men and equipment to hold those strategic targets. Don't western sanctions make the pipeline useless, anyway? Russia has lots of customers, elsewhere. The railway line is significant, but other modes of transport are also available. It may slow the Russians down in their deployment, but it doesn't change the strategic realities. If this is a chess game, the Kursk incursion is a spite check.

It's a lot easier to get terms that are favorable if you start out asking for the Moon. Then you can make a deal that's favorable for yourself, while appearing to have made major concessions.

I hate to see anyone murdered, but the guys at the top who are prosecuting these wars should be considered front of the line for attack. The guys who send other guys to die are the most dangerous to us all. I don't care what "side" you're on.

This was already proved by mass missile attacks months ago. Rallying all their neighbors and the USA, Israel fended off the attack, but with a reduced capacity to repeat the same trick. Simple fact is the Iranians can produce more drones and missiles than Israel and her allies can produce air defense to stop. Patriot is good. But expensive and in limited supply. We see this playing out in Ukraine and Israel.

Ukraine hasn't been run by Ukrainians for over a decade.

They're a long way from using F-16s in close air support at the front. They can, however, be used as airborne launch systems for stand-off attacks against Russian logistics and infrastructure. That's my low-info take. I know nothing about their usefulness against missile attacks.

Too much detail without clear overview. For me.

I see all the infrastructure strikes in Ukraine and lament that all of this was unnecessary.

@MothaLuva More crystal = more clarity.

Reminds me of the Battle of the Bulge.

Yeah, I think the Ukrainians are trying to grab poorly defended territory and then go on the defensive, like the Russians have done in the past. It's a smart tactic, but it's too little, too late to make a strategic difference.

@dacream_reaper0493 And now Hungary and Slovakia will pay higher prices. They won't be thanking Ukraine for that. Ukraine needs all the friends it can get, but it's running roughshod over everybody because it's on a holy mission. This will blow back on Ukraine, widening the rifts within NATO/EU.

@hyhhy It now looks like Russia's bypassing and isolating these strongholds. I think their air defenses are better, and they're able to shift mechanized forces back and forth along the front lines faster than the Ukrainians can shift theirs in response. I don't think the Ukrainians have the reserves to defend the entire 1000-km front, in strength, and the Russians keep shifting their attacks, and probing. I agree that the Russians aren't interested in conquering Ukraine. I think they will not go much beyond the Russian-speaking areas, and only to reach more defensible topography, at which point, they'll dig in and entertain offers from Ukraine and the West, but they will not be trusting a piece of paper from either one.

This is what passes for a topographic map? How about an actual contour map, with isocontours? That shows everything.
