  1. I'm not huge on cryptids, but if there WERE a hairy humanoid that was still around without any real proof, it would have to be very smart, and very, very shy. Its entire culture would be built around how dangerous we humans are. And when you hear some of the Indian legends about the big, hairy cannibals they exterminated in their past, maybe there's something to that, and maybe those - some call them nephelem) - who survived made it their business to stay the hell out of our way.

  2.  @Tampa_tom  The weed is why you're sitting down, quiet, in a lonely place to get high. And you tend to stay quiet. It ain't like the weed makes you rambunctious, all of a sudden. If you're quiet, and mindful of the wind direction, you can get eyes on all kinds of critters.

  3. I saw a mountain lion in Umatilla National Forest, once. It seemed as though its nose was in the brush on the far side of the road before its tail was out of the brush on the near side of the road. It puts a whole new spin on tent-camping.

  4. Good point. Yeah. When people of different races meet for the first time, they can see more of the "monkey" in the other human. Doesn't matter which race. Each will see the other as a big, dangerous ape, because that's what we are. Familiarity humanizes us to one another.
