I was working at Restaurant Depot when Trump tariffs were first implemented. Restaurant Depot supplies local restaurants with their groceries. From around late 2017 and early 2018 a lot of imports that were big sellers went up too high in price to be profitable. Especially popular seafood like shrimp, scallops, and red snapper that were big sellers for a lot of restaurants. So we quit carrying them. After a couple weeks of not having the imports on the shelves the restaurant owners who shopped at our store got frustrated and would ask to talk to my manager. My manager would always say to them "This is what you voted for, good luck." We ended up losing a lot of customers because we couldn't afford to carry certain products. A couple local ma and pop restaurants even closed down because they couldn't source specific groceries for a reasonable price.
