Besides, I can use my SpaceCredits to buy a can of coke! In space! And by coke I mean actual cocaine! Would make me %500 more of an efficient slave!

We won't pay any pensions for them, these resources can be spent in better places, and the elderly won't have to live for decades with chronic diseases. It's also good for the environment. Poor families can also have a very useful resource. Their labor. The greatest wisdom from the Bible is: "He who does not work, neither shall he eat" It was so revolutionary, even Lenin used it. Why hand out something for free when it can be exchanged for labor? Poor people have the strength to work. They just need someone to tell them what to do, like all employees.
