  1.  @Lucas-dg4zn  yes. Desmond Morris (Human Zoo/Naked Ape) spends chapters on the importance of childhood, and how that shaped us (as a species). I just mean we used to not care about children "as much" as we do today. We started caring more when they passed the ages where death was a lower chance.

  2. Parents generally didn't care as much for their children. That's a modern trend, which we have retconed into our stories. If the rate of death was so high you learnt not to be attached to each child. Source: Dan Carlin

  5.  @Razooooh  I'm sorry. It was 'probably' one of the Roman episodes. I remember him mentioning how a wet nurse was the most popular job in Rome, even poor women would send their child's away... You could ask in the Hardcore History Reddit, they're really helpful.
