"Russia wants the Baltics back" such a weird way of thinking. Estonia was populated after last ice age, with documented artifacts from 9000yrs ago. We are not Slavic, or Russian, we are linguistically and culturally linked with Finland in Finno-Ugric group. We were here long before the tsars, Stalin, and this Putin goblin. Because we were invaded and occupied in a blip of time in the grand scale of things means absolutely nothing, and all our good neighbours agree.
No stories of "denazification", they already tried the "protecting russian speakers" nonsense, no historical fairytales, no lies about "the rus" so it's just simply because under Molotov-Ribbentrop we were occupied, and since regaining independence we've been incredibly successful.
Greetings from Estonia.

Estonia wanted to be a founding member of NATO in 1949 but we were occupied by the Soviets under Molotov-Ribbentrop. We never accepted occupation, and it was a deception under threat of invasion by force. We had resistance fighters, Forest Brothers, til the 70s. We lost 20% of our population to deportation to gulag, executions, "disappearances". We were russified and had to change our names to be more russian, we weren't allowed our language and culture. Our land was destroyed and polluted. We aren't Slavic people, we're Finno-Ugric with Baltic tribe roots, speaking in a language group twith Finland that has no resemblance to russian. We held our national song festival throughout Soviet occupation and from the 1980s wee started The Singing Revolution, which sparked The Baltic Way with 2 million Baltic people joining hands over 675km from Tallinn through Riga to Vilnius in 1989. The world press took attention, this began the process for our independence.
I'll be clear in saying we have no true history with the colonial neighbour other than invasion and occupation, and want nothing to do with the miserable wasteland.
Greetings from Estonia.

@rffromusa8319 didn't the soviets liberate Auschwitz, soldiers of First Ukrainian Front opened the gates? Edit: checked and a quote -
"In the east, the camps were liberated by the [Red Army]: it liberated Majdanek in July 1944, Auschwitz on 27 January, 1945, and the concentration camps of Gross-Rosen, Sachsenhausen, Ravensbrück, Stutthoff, and Theresienstadt in the ensuing months.
In the West, American troops liberated Buchenwald, Dachau, Dora-Mittelbau, Flossenbürg, and Mauthausen, among other camps. When British forces entered Bergen-Belsen..."

@ronblack7870 NATO has expanded with Finland’s huge ground army with eye watering artillery, and Sweden with incredible naval, air, shell and weapons production. Poland will be the most armed and capable force in Europe very soon. Then there’s the UK, France, Germany with their power base. The US is inserted throughout Europe. National spend is on the rise, and from here in East Europe the recruiting, arming, and preparation has been constant since Feb 2022.
russia is limping along with dwindling Soviet stockpiles, and is being propped up by NK, China, Iran. All stats and forecast show russia peaks this year, and everything snowballs downhill fast from 2025.

Many things can and/or will happen such as hyperinflation, starvation, winter fatalities fromlack of heating, mass protests, riots, mass arrests, assets in Kremlin activating coup, uprising in Belarus, various RU propagandists “taken care of” by russians, infrastructure and utilities mass failure, industries collapsing, wide scale bankruptcies, break down within military… the instability into summer 2025 is going to be sizzling.

There’s migrants, displaced, asylum seekers and refugees all across Europe from various conflicts, hostile states, and I varying diaspora clusters. Here in Tallinn, Estonia, we are neighbours with lots of Ukrainians, Georgians, Belarusians, some Albanians, Russians, there’s migrant tech workers from across Asia and Europe, Finns, Swedes, all in a tiny city of 450,000 population. It’s also one of the safest cities in Europe.

Greetings from Estonia 🇪🇪
A little piece of history here -
NATO was described by Estonia as “a courageous move in the interests of universal peace and as an important factor of the poster policy of the Eastern democracies in the strengthening of freedom and security in the North Atlantic area, to which the Baltic area also belongs.”
“Estonia is still under the illegal occupation and domination of the Soviet Union,” the statement, written by Estonian diplomat Johannes Kaiv, continues, “and is, therefore, prevented from manifesting openly its keen interest in this pact.”
“I have the honor to offer my best wishes to the signatories of the North Atlantic Pact, and to express my confidence that they, inspired by ideals of democracy, of individual liberty, and of the rule of law, will strive relentlessly for peace with justice, which excludes peace at any price. Therefore, I express the belief that countries, which were forcibly deprived of self-government and independence will benefit by this noble endeavor,”
Estonian Consul General Johannes Kaiv - letter to NATO, 1949

Oh Jake. On military spend of Russia and EU - Russia is on total war footing with loans up to the hilt for a war it has barely progressed in for 3yrs. Russia has lost the majority of its armour, relies on NK for dud shells and troops, and using donkeys. Russians along the procurement and production chain pocket 50-70% of the budget in the true corrupt way, and there's a huge shortfall of 100s of 1000s of working staff in military production factories. Almost everything Russia produces gets destroyed in Ukraine, and Ukraine is destroying Russia's means to produce. EU and NATO countries have given old stock to Ukraine and bought in new kit more appropriate to the current threat. You repeatedly say how Poland, Baltics and Nordics are wide awake and spending appropriately. Then forget it all and think we're all asleep. We are on the frontline of the east flank here and preparing for total defence and deterrence across Baltics, and Nordics, the combined and coordinated power of the region alone would neuter Russia, then there's Poland right alongside us.
Edit: Putin is paying highly inflated fees to sign-ups, this comes from the war spend. Figures coming out of Russia are entirely unreliable. The Russian economy and spending is opaque at best, and the economy is on a razor edge with inflation, interest, unsustainable loans and spending. Russian production cannot sustain its current war and other ambitions, the data is accessible through sources examining the depletion of stocks, the constantly diminishing production capabilities, and internal pressures in Russia and within the Kremlin itself. The "hybrid war" in information spaces, social media, politics, sabotage, and influence relies on soft targets and lack of awareness and security in the targeted countries. Again, the Baltics, Nordics, and Poland are far ahead on all of this. Ukraine has been going after military production infrastructure and logistics.
EU is the not whole of Europe, Nordic countries and other non-EU countries in Europe participate in other agreements and alliances. GDP defence spend is lacking in some key EU countries and that is being addressed.
Greetings from Estonia.

Joint Expeditionary Forces - UK, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania - seem open to new allies such as Poland, tentatively Germany, and France. This includes all national Special Operatiins Forces, national defence forces, and their fiercest kit, arranged for task and purpose. Greetings from Estonia.
