One thing government is VERY good at is making things more expensive (at no skin off the nose of the priests in white coats). Geothermal has always been an non-starter because it's more expensive than coal/nuclear/natural gas. But since government excels at making things more expensive, just force up the cost of "fossil" till "geo" becomes cost-competitive. Simple!

@Cythil Everyone benefits from fossil fuel, so I'm not buying into that, if that's what you mean.
1
@Funkywallot Thank you. We need reality bits for these gee-whiz conversations.

@Cythil Look up what condescending elitism is somewhere outside your echo chamber.
1
@Cythil I am serious. Religious fanatics like you will do to the west what prioritizing cows over people did to India.
1
@Cythil Spare me. Get a real job instead. Then come talk to me about "externalities".
1
@Cythil Tell me yours, and I'll tell you why it isn't.

@Cythil People who have real jobs know what they are, and know when they're talking to people who don't. Besides, YOU"RE the economist, with your "externalities". Besides.... you're from stupid Sweden -- THAT explains it.

Thank you for not making this a (total) cheerleading session for another tax-funded science project.

@ax14pz107 I take it you don't have a real job.

@ax14pz107 I take you haven't had a real job for more than five minutes.

@malectric Good for New Zealand. Evidently it has cost-effective geo sites, like Iceland. But I have my doubts because New Zealand is a stupid-Liberal country and they've probably distorted their energy markets with "green" feel-goodery. (That last PM was a real Femo-Fascist POS.)
1
@malectric I'm not impressed with your self-important, un-asked-for sense of cerebral superiority (typical of this issue). "This isn't political?" You're a crappy citizen.
1
@malectric Yes it does. It's mostly a looking-for-a-handout boondoggle.

@phredw1245 How do you figure "government subsidizes fossil fuels"?
