  1. Something similar happened to me. For about the first eight years after leaving the crib, my younger brother and I slept in bunk beds. I was probably about eight or nine years old when we were playing tag in the bedroom, and I had crawled into the top bunk to escape. When he tagged me back, I reached out and over the rail to touch him, and lost my balance and tipped over, landing on my neck. I am VERY fortunate that the floor was carpeted and I had not landed in an even more awkward position, as I could have easily ended up paralyzed for life. And that's just from horsing around when I'm awake -- how anyone can trust themselves enough to sleep in an upper bunk without rails is, to me, utterly inconceivable. That's dangerous.
