I'm all for defending one's property -- especially a vehicle, very few would tolerate having their car stolen -- but that was pretty reckless. If I were him, I would have drawn the gun but not fired unless I had reason to believe I was about to be fired upon. He had every right to chase the wannabe thief off, but no right to put others in mortal danger. I'm glad to see no one else got hurt. A fine, a few days in jail, and a mandatory gun safety course to regain his right to own a firearm would seem an appropriate punishment to me.
