  1. MAXIMUM praise for that hero officer who was in the right place at the right time and took decisive action! This could've been much, much worse if he hadn't taken out the shooter as quickly as he did. That said, we can not rely on such fortuitous circumstances as law enforcement personnel being nearby to save people's lives. We MUST demand action! Have we not had enough? If we are to be the only nation with more guns than people, the least we can do is provide universal, easy access to mental health services. I'm all for treating mental health, but I also believe the best solution to preventing future shootings is to address both necessary ingredients: people and guns. Universal background checks and the assault weapons ban -- which expired in 2004 -- are non-starters for elected Republicans. That HAS to change!
