Critical Thinker Well if the old testament is so useless, why don't Christians just throw it out? Oh right, because it provided the "prophecies" that were supposedly "fulfilled" by Jesus, even though that wasn't good enough for most Jews of his day, Flavius Josephus being one such example. Except that the authors of the NT conspicuously retrofitted the Jesus myth to fit OT prophecies that weren't really prophecies at all, when read in proper context. So while Jesus may not have condemned as many people to the sword, he did make a threat of eternal damnation for those who didn't believe his message. Sounds like a real nice dude 🙄

I figured it out: Conservatives want to bring people into this world only to make them suffer (no sex outside reproduction, work all day, no drug use, etc.) or put them to death. They're the barbaric ones, not us who wish to see a fetus aborted before its nervous system develops than watch it suffer from extreme pain or abject poverty.

@WEAPONX4S I can't stand the thought of a healthy third-trimester fetus being willfully aborted. I think that should be outlawed in all cases except where the health of the mother is at risk, or the fetus has a congenial condition which will put it through a lot of pain and misery. Short of that, 3rd trimester abortion is abominable. But I find the stance against 1st trimester abortion equally reprehensible, because having a child is a huge burden on a family, not to mention all the labor pains and permanent tissue scarring that occurs when a mother gives birth. So clearly the debate has to take place somewhere in the 2nd trimester, and I think that's where we can have healthy disagreement. I agree, the solution should be to abandon abstinence-only education and teach youth instead about the merits of forms of birth control such as condom use, the pill, and IUD's. That has statistically been proven to reduce the number of abortions, and so it's a solution we should pursue at the federal level.
