18 is the age where you should be able to make that decision for yourself. At that point, you're legally able to vote and financially self-reliant, thus you're a legal adult and can do whatever the hell you want with your body. Transitioning a child is nothing short of severe sexual abuse, which is punishable by decades in county jail. Anyone who attempts this should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

@meagan8666 By "peanut gallery," I assume you're referring to the general population with common sense? If it's considered abuse to hit, inappropriately touch or neglect a child, how is it not abusive to feed them lies about their own identity and chemically castrate them? Mind you, this is before they are able to think rationally and make these decisions for themselves. How is the parent supposed to know the child's supposed gender identity? Isn't that something only the child should know, as you SJW freaks keep telling us? There should absolutely be a law prohibiting parents from influencing their child's gender in any fashion, other than providing them with factual information on the subject. This is really just common sense.

@meagan8666 You never addressed my argument that gender identity is something only the individual knows. A parent can't possibly tell what gender the child is, they only know their biological sex (which should be the same as gender, but that's another matter). Society has clearly made it so children under the age of 18 are precluded from making decisions for themselves. Example: Any cosmetic procedure, such as getting a tattoo, isn't allowed for people under 18 years old. I don't believe people should be able to make the permanent and damaging act of transitioning until they at least are old enough to sign their own permission slips. But that's just my take on it, from a moral standpoint.

@meagan8666 I still believe children are incapable of truly knowing their gender identity. They haven't developed complex and abstract thinking yet, and therefore are unable to comprehend the true nature and consequences of their decisions. At 18, because society has arbitrarily chosen that number as being a "legal adult," people can function well enough to make these decisions for themselves. Until then, my conviction is that the parents should raise their kids as the gender assigned to them at birth, and address them accordingly. This does not mean that the child has to obey specific gender norms (I'm egalitarian, I believe they should be allowed to do whatever makes them happy as long as it is not harming anyone), but for all intents and purposes his/her gender is the one formally designated to them by their doctor when or soon after they were born.

@meagan8666 You misunderstood my statement. Obviously when I was in grade school I knew I was a boy, and not a girl. But that's only because I was raised as a boy, and looked more like other boys. What I really meant was kids are unable to comprehend the reasons a person might become transgender. That's why I assert that parents should raise their children as the sex they were assigned at birth, and then at 18 let them make up their own minds. What I don't want is for kids around the country to suddenly decide "Hey, I want to be a girl today!" without understanding its implications. They lack the maturity necessary to grasp the reasons a person might have to suddenly change his/her gender. Thus, I suggest they should be raised without this confusion, and once they reach adulthood and their brains have developed they are much more likely to have learned of the true reasons behind transgenderism and can be trusted to formally make this decision for themselves.

@meagan8666 Your responses are beginning to make no sense. Kids won't make the transition because they have a legitimate mental disorder, they'll do it for fun. Most of them won't be serious about it. Hell, a man can't become a woman and a woman can't become a man, so this whole argument has really been a waste of time since we're debating on a false premise. I just don't believe it's right to chemically change a child's normal balance, either by giving a girl steroids or feeding a boy soy and estrogen. Let them make those decisions for themselves when they're older and are more aware of the implications. I don't know how many times I have to keep saying this, a dumbass like you can't understand that it's morally wrong to alter the hormonal balance of a child's development and undergo invasive surgery, both of which have lifelong permanent effects. If I haven't talked some sense into you at this point, you're not even worth my time. Have a nice day.
