Exactly. That's why the death penalty should be abolished. It's cruel and it doesn't work (as a deterrent). And 4% of the time, we execute the wrong people. Every sane person on the planet would call that "murder," but you would be surprised how off-the-rails American conservatives can be. They accuse AOC and Bernie of being extremists, but they would be considered moderates or at most center-left anywhere in Western Europe. It's the right-wing in this country that are the true radicals of the developed world. Life imprisonement is a harsher sentence than capital punishment. This has been my position from the very beginning. If he's guilty, then he will slowly rot away and die behind bars. If new evidence exonerates him, then he will (most likely) still be around to live free once again and, hopefully, with a healthy sum in compensation. That's how justice would work, if we were sane and rational people who didn't take the advice of a 4,000-year-old book literally.
