"Pay for libraries"... boy it's real expensive keeping all those books on the shelves isn't it? 🙄 Seriously, haven't these people heard of online databases?

@kriswingo5905 I guess if there's a subscription cost... but it seems to me like EBSCO host or WorldCat would offer their services at low cost to universities. Not to mention the entirety of the Internet is free.

@kriswingo5905 Electricity is paid for the entire college I believe, if they have things like computer labs (as mine does), then it'll only make up a tiny fraction of the total electricity bill. HVAC is kind of the same thing. Also tech support is for the entire college as well (typically), not just the library.

@kriswingo5905 Space costs money? You mean real estate? If the campus hasn't already paid off its debt to that land, then they have a problem. But does it really cost that much to keep a book on a shelf and pay one person to scan it every couple of weeks?

@kriswingo5905 Well then I guess my original comment is still somewhat valid at least. It really shouldn't be that expensive to run a library once everything is set up and paid for. (Expansions not included, obviously.) Colleges/universities shouldn't charge students exorbitant prices to have access to them.

@kriswingo5905 Not much. Tuition mostly consists of the courses themselves, and the textbooks on top of that. But I can only speak for my college, not the thousands of colleges and universities around the country. I'm just saying what shouldn't happen, not necessarily implying that it does happen.

@Aduhwan Which databases are we talking about? Because I can't imagine EBSCOHost or WorldCat being that expensive for a subscription cost. The entire Internet is free, how much could some scholarly articles and peer-reviewed studies cost to hold on a server? If the prices are as high as you say I think the universities are getting ripped off.
