@DA-wx9oz Dude, I grew up in this cult. Perhaps the closest comparison to them is the Mormons. The worst they do to others (generally) is shun family members who are "disfellowshipped" (their version of excommunication). I have not known a single one to actually kill in defense of their faith (unlike a certain Middle Eastern religion). What the Catholic Church has done to altar boys far outweighs the totality of physical harm this radical sect of Christianity has been responsible for since its inception. I'm willing to bet my life on it.

I grew up a JW. They're a very backwards religion for sure, but under no circumstances is this permissible. Freedom of religion is a fundamental human right (including freedom from religion), but Russia doesn't seem to understand what those are. Just one more example: they're united with the JW's in their utter contempt for the LGBTQ+ community. But if your faith is viewed as "heretical" or "extremist" by those in power, they cannot live and let live. And we have yet another reason to think that religion is a force for evil and division, not goodness and unity. When you believe you have the single correct interpretation of the text supposedly authored by the creator of the universe, there are no limits to the cruelty you feel is justified to inflict on your opponents. One might have hoped the human race would have outgrown this by now. 🤦‍♂️

@deeb3077 I hate to tell you this, but gay sex harms no one. Neither does gay marriage. Or allowing women to hold positions of leadership (e.g. in the household). Face it: you're taking the superstitious and backwards morality of Iron Age peasants literally, despite the preponderance of scientific evidence demonstrating that certain behaviors are harmless, or in some cases beneficial. Get outta here with that "JW's love all people" and "sin harms people" nonsense.

@IAMJC39 Well, it seems like the last several thousand years have demonstrated that in full force, hasn't it? Beginning with stoning people who work on the Sabbath and homosexuals, slaughtering rival tribes (Numbers and Deutoronomy), establishing dictatorships and persecuting others who don't have all the exact same beliefs (Europe in the Middle Ages), launching Inquisitions and Crusades and Holocausts, to terrorism (Islam and the Tamil Tigers), denying science and hindering the distribution of contraceptives to AIDS-ridden Africa. Wow, now there's a track record of loving thy neighbor and treating him as yourself.
