  1. Get guns off our streets. Just as there is no "free market utopia" that has achieved nearly the same level of prosperity as the socially democratic Scandinavian states, there is no country that has allowed possession of guns to proliferate like we have yet maintains one of the lowest rates of violent crime. The top two countries in terms of firearms-per-capita are the U.S. and Yemen, the latter of which is in the middle of a civil war and ranks lowest on life expectancy and happiness indexes, and the former has homicide rates that far outpace that of other developed countries. The whole game-theory idea of protecting oneself by being openly armed only creates more death and misery, not prevents it.

  2. The U S. has the most firearms per capita of any country in the world (Yemen is second). Not surprisingly, we also have the highest rates of gun violence of any country in the developed world by far. Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Norway, and almost all other developed countries have some of the strictest gun laws, and also have the lowest rates of gun v-olence of any country in the world. Coincidence? I think not. This is the price you pay for "freedom." I hope it's worth it.
