He thought the Earth was shaped like a pear (hence the reason he had to sail under the Spanish crown -- the Italian monarchy laughed at him for believing he could sail to India by going the opposite direction) and was a genocidal maniac. More than anything, he was a straight-up buffoon. Oh, and Leif Erikson was the first European to discover America. Maybe we should have a Vikings Day instead.

Columbus wasn't a revolutionary thinker, he was a moron and genocidal maniac who stumbled upon the same land indigenous peoples and Erikson did before him. His arrival to the Americas was an accident (his intention was to sail to India) and a product of foolishness and obstinateness, not genius.
