@flakesinyershoe8137 "We've always had an incredible amount of firearms." I'm going to need a source on that. I couldn't find anything on gun ownership rates prior to the 1970's in the U.S. It's possible that the rates of civilian ownership has always been high, but the perceived increase in gun violence may be adequately accounted for by increased urbanization (i.e. more people crowded into cities, where one more often encounters total strangers as compared with small towns), media coverage (perhaps incentivizing mass shooters who want to become "famous"), and gang activity (particularly surrounding the distribution of illegal drugs like crack cocaine and heroine). None of these three factors are unique to the United States -- what does set us apart is the sheer amount of guns in civilian possession. We have the third largest population of any country in the world and yet are to date the only nation with more guns than people; it's not even close. Have you considered that that may be to blame for all this needless violence?
