  1. I think it's appropriate if a leader has lost someone they knew personally, someone who was close to them. If the mood hits them I absolutely think they shouldn't try to hold it back. But if it's reporting on sad news, whether it's one black man who was unjustly murdered or 100,000 people they don't know dying of a pandemic, I think solemnity is the appropriate response, not tears.
