As tragic as this is, it was clearly an accident. She was behind a wall, so there was no way the officer could have known that she was Latina, or even that anybody was in the line of fire other than the suspect. I object to this shooting only because the suspect wasn't armed (a bike lock isn't considered a deadly weapon, especially against law enforcement), and the suspect was clearly fleeing, so the officer who fired has no claim to self-defense. From the footage provided, they clearly could have apprehended the suspect without the use of lethal force and resolved the incident safely. I hope the officer involved and the Los Angeles Police Department are held to account. My condolences to the victim's family.
