  1. If you want to see how far spirituality can take you, with no religious delusions required, there is arguably no better source than Sam Harris. His book, Waking Up: A Guide to Spirituality Without Religion, is an excellent introduction to this topic. He manages to approach it from a scientific perspective (he's a neuroscientist, after all) and avoid the pitfall of New Age woo (e.g. Deepak Chopra). Highly recommended.
