  2. This is why the civilized world is progressing towards physician-assisted su*cide (a.k.a. euthanasia), at least for terminally ill patients. America has not yet joined their ranks. There is little point in preserving the life of someone who is terminally ill, in chronic pain, and who has lost the will to live -- except of course, to prolong their suffering. Maximizing human misery is, and always has been, the conservative's ultimate goal. This woman is a hero in my books.
