I was raised Jehovah's Witness (I am now an atheist). I experienced what it was like to see all your friends from school participate in a joyful activity, while you had to stay behind and do schoolwork or otherwise occupy yourself with something else. It's no fun. That said, part of me does hate to see that schools are taking the step of eliminating fun activities and tradition because of a few who will feel excluded. I believe the solution is to give the students who don't participate something exciting (and unrelated to the holiday) to do as a group instead, like Bingo. Although, I would be lying if I said I didn't hold some kind of grudge against the cult I was raised in for destroying any chances I had at enjoying holiday traditions in my childhood and at forming relationships with others (one tends to become ostracized as a result; "Oh, he's a Jehovah's Witness"). Now, I run the risk of being shunned by family if I am disfellowshipped. Even today, religion can be a truly destructive force -- but it could also be a force for good, if we are willing to make the change.

@ES-qu1jd And what gives you the impression that I'm not? And even so, I run the risk of extreme disapproval by my parents if I announce that I no longer want to associate with the religion.
