@Yellowjjacket As a Californian, I can assure you that wildfires (for the most part) only impact those living in or near the mountains where there is a lot of debris that could easily be ignited. If you're on the coast or in the Valley (like me), the worst you'll likely encounter during fire season is some poor air quality for a few days. As for earthquakes, those do concern me quite a bit, but fortunately the truly catastrophic ones do not occur frequently enough to outweigh the other benefits (such as good weather). It's really just a matter of hoping that you're not in the wrong place at the wrong time, such as inside a building that is in poor condition (not unique to California -- see Surfside, Flordia) or on a bridge. And once again, the impacts are mostly localized and generally are only experienced along the coast (the Bay Area or Eureka, for instance).
