  1. It's hardly surprising that the party of gerrymandering would push legislation stripping the right to vote away from the people. This isn't about needing an I.D. (which I think is important for election security), it's about disenfranchising voters to maintain the status quo --- with absolutely zero evidence to justify it. Good on those Texas lawmakers for abandoning their post in an attempt to block this unconstitutional bill, but I'm afraid it's up to Congress and the courts to decide what happens next. It's beyond depressing that we can't come to an agreement on election security by ensuring that American's votes are actually being counted (and they're not being diluted by votes from people who aren't legally allowed to vote), yet at the same time making exercising one's constitutional right to decide our democracy as simple a process as possible (e.g. by automatic registration, mail-in-voting, Election Day as a federal holiday, more ballot drop-off boxes, etc.) without our judgement being clouded by partisan politics. If we continue down this path, I'm afraid to say the future of this country looks rather dim.
