As a 20-year-old myself (from California ironically), I'm with you all the way. This wokeness crap is driving me insane.

This quote is š„. This is why we need secular humanism, so we can stop stoning homosexuals, throwing babies of parents who worship "false gods" against rocks, or putting disobedient children to death. Once I read those commandments in the Bible, I knew I couldn't worship a deity who would a) command these things directly, or b) allow His followers to write them in His holy text. That's why I believe living by my own objective standards of morality is the best bet.

Pretty solid explanation, however I would've personally gone more in-depth into the societal implications of abortion as well. Tulsi chose to focus more on the issue on the individual level, but I think the argument for the pro-choice side can be really won on the side of what's best for humanity and for the country. We know that we don't live in a utopia with unlimited wealth and resources such as land, both for human occupation and farming, so overpopulation is a major concern when taking a strong pro-life stance. The other issue is that of the cycle of poverty, and how the poor or struggling mothers who don't take enough responsibility and end up pregnant don't entirely ruin their livelihoods and hopes of achievement because of one silly mistake. Not when we have the technology that can easily address the issue with no side-effects (other than the psychological). That's where I would have directed the conversation, citing statistics like 60+ million babies in America have been aborted since the 1970's.

If I had children and they decided to come out as transgender, I would tell them to tough it out. You don't decide your gender, your DNA does. They'll have to wait until they're 18 before they can make that decision.

Well that's an interesting take Jo has... On a purely philosophical and medical basis, though, I still don't think legalizing methamphetamine/cocain/heroine/etc. is the right move. I'm afraid people will think that just because it's "legal" that it's safe, and it isn't. Those drugs should continue to be considered narcotics and illicit substances because of their threat to the immediate health of the people who use them. The statistics on overdose deaths alone should be enough to justify their status as illegal substances, and those who do them shouldn't be incarcerated but rehabilitated. Marijuana and psychedelics, on the other hand, should IMMEDIATELY be legalized NATIONWIDE, and the records of all who have used them should be expunged. Drugs is a complicated subject and you can't just label all of them as "good" or "bad," you have to take a closer look and determine which are generally safe and which are not. Alcohol and tobacco are legal in the USA; far less dangerous substances like marijuana, LSD and psilocybin should be as well.

The problem is homophobia. Societal pressure shouldn't be an excuse to deny basic science and biology.

As a minimum wage worker in California, I can verify that that last part is 100% true. The income tax rate here is almost 20%. And for what? Healthcare for illegal aliens and reparations š¤¦āāļø

I'm voting for Jo just because I'm tired of all the social conservative BS (the War on Drugs, the attacks on gays and lesbians, the restriction of pornography, etc.) and Trump has done NOTHING to counter that. I live in California anyway, so Biden is all but certain to win but I'll make sure that my voice is HEARD. I'm sick of the two-party system and I'm barely 20 years old!!

Ā @harpsichordkidĀ Exactly my point. The Libertarian Party is the ONLY party to have promised to do something about the War on Drugs. Jo is a solid candidate.
1
Ā @harpsichordkidĀ Well, I think Jo is more of a compromise candidate on that issue. She doesn't want to ban all abortions, but she isn't advocating for late-term/post-birth abortions either (unlike, say, Ilhan Omar). I think she wants to strike a balance between them. The President doesn't have a lot of power over abortion anyway, most of the decisions are left to the courts and the governors.

I think I know exactly what you mean. I'm from California but where I live (central valley) we're definitely on the right side of the spectrum, and I overheard a conversation at work one time between someone who was quite clearly conservative and another man who was debating him. One of them had to leave, but as a parting shot the right-leaning guy said "he's brainwashed" in a mild-mannered tone, obviously referring to the mainstream media's influence over him š¤£

This lady needs to learn a lesson from Thomas Sowell: BLM is a bunch of crap!

What a coincidence, I'm just about to start reading Common Sense myself! š¤£

"David beat Goliath." Yeah, only if you believe in fairy tales. This ain't no fairy tale š

Ā @robinsssĀ I understand your point completely. Maybe they should be heavily regulated instead, and children should be educated about them and why they should avoid using them. What I'm afraid of is if they are handed over to a private company to sell (like a dispensary), then that company will be encouraged to get more people addicted for profit, eventually leading to more deaths. I don't find that to be a perfectly moral solution either. Perhaps licensed pharmacists can distribute the drug in small quantities to those who are already using it, so it makes it all but impossible for them to overdose. I think that's a better way of handling this.
