Decriminalizing possession of illegal drugs? Ever considered when and why these drugs were made illegal in the first place? I'll give you a hint: if you're referring to marijuana or hallucinogens like LSD, then danger to personal health is most definitely NOT one of them. Cigarettes will kill you long before pot, provided that you are responsible and not engaging in reckless and (righteously) illegal behavior such as driving under the influence. The way I see it, the only reasonable explanation a political institution can give for prohibiting the sale and distribution of a drug is if it poses a scientifically proven risk to a person's health. THE ONLY REASON. Tobacco and alcohol are much more dangerous than many Class I narcotics the US government has arbitrarily deemed "impermissible" for personal possession and recreation.

Sound reasoning, and a wise observation.

Seek out your desires and attain them. Either satisfy oneself or learn the lesson that the endeavor is not worthwhile.

@user-jy5qm8nc9m Oh yeah for sure people get addicted. But if it does them no bodily harm, then that's their choice. Maybe that's how they feel they should live out their lives, high on drugs. Doesn't bother me. If they want to clean up their act, so to speak, rehabilitation centers will always be available to them. But then again, it's their choice.

But is there such a thing as objective morality? And does the Constitution guarantee religious freedom insofar as it pertains to agnosticism or atheism? John Locke believed that people are fundamentally good, if that was the truth (as most of the FF's believed) religion would serve no moral purpose. According to Locke, every individual is endowed with his or her own moral compass. The Framers were heavily influenced by his philosophy when they wrote the US Constitution, I sincerely doubt they would have not foreseen the possibility of religion losing its significance to the everyday life of Americans. I could be wrong, of course, but I find it unconvincing that they might not have at least flirted with this possibility when designing their new nation. From my perspective, this debate is meaningless.
