Well guess what: If you were a scientist in medieval Europe back then, and you were openly nonreligious, you would be burned at the stake for heresy. Just ask Giordano Bruno. It's a historical FACT that Christianity stifled scientific development for over a thousand years, from the time of the ancient Greeks and Romans to the Copernican Revolution, which was only permitted because the power of the Catholic Church was waning (due to the Reformation), and because the guy who published his heretical idea that the Earth orbits the Sun was on his deathbed. One of the greatest scientific minds to ever live barely escaped with his life after promoting the theory a hundred years later, instead receiving a merciful sentence of permanent house arrest (Galileo Galilei). Indeed, if it weren't for Christianity and the tyranny of the Church, we may have invented the computer and landed a man on the moon in 1069 instead of 1969. Here's a suggestion: learn some basic history.
