Unless there's an exit coming up on the left (which from what I've seen is relatively rare; typically you have to use the right lanes for all exits/interchanges), you should not be camping in the left lane in light traffic. It's a PASSING lane only. If there's somebody speeding up behind you going 20+ mph over the speed limit, move over early and let them pass. You're putting everyone -- including yourself -- in greater danger if you don't. Leave enforcing the law to law enforcement. In addition to the passing lane rule, it is ILLEGAL in Germany to pass on the right except in very specific situations (such as heavy traffic and one lane just happens to be moving a little bit faster than another). We could learn a lesson or two from them, on top of potentially eliminating speed limits on Interstate highways altogether.
