It was also before income taxes (followed with others such as capital gains, etc.) were imposed in 1913.

I love waffles. Thank you for revealing their history. BTW, I still stand by the waffle ice cream cone originating at the St. Louis 1904 Worlds Fair. My aunt, who was a young woman there (where my maternal family settled) was at the fair and told me. So, it must be true.

Very interesting and clarifying where some have attempted to spread propaganda.
7
Agreed. McGovern basically said let's step into the other back room.
7
I've never been a true wine expert by any means, but did appreciate learning so much from today's video.
7
Lawrence, I'm just interested if like my school class; did you have some "expert" bring in a Geiger and counter and rock to demonstrate how it worked, and of course passed it around to all us kids? Oh, those were the days, but we've survived to tell about it. I think -- The History Guy is our good example -- we need to share these details before they are long forgotten.

Happy National Weather Person's Day. I once knew a meteorologist who told me that weather is historically circular over long periods. He also offered historic examples. So much for climate change Al Gore. Also I can rest knowing that the world will not end in 1974 because of global warming -- or was it cooling -- as I was told in 1968.
7
Very informative and enjoyable episode, Lance. Thanks for your work.
6
Nice instruction. I like it as it is welcoming. Thanks.
6
Enjoy. I've only seen it from the bridge. I always wondered how the view was from down there.
6
Something slightly different. I enjoyed it.

Splendid report, Lance. It has always amazed me regarding team moves and rule changes (I do like the pitcher timer I must admit). I knew the Browns became the Orioles, but had no idea there had been an earlier team in Baltimore of the same name. That said, I don't think it was until I was in my 40s that I learned our beloved Cardinals had moved to St. Louis from Chicago (playing at Sportsman Park when my grandfather was still alive) before moving to the first Busch Stadium. I've seen so many league, team and rule changes in the past 20 years it is difficult to build a loyalty as it was when we were kids (1950s and 1960s). At least I got to meet Stan the Man and knew on Saturday morning Mr. and Mrs. Jack Buck could be found having breakfast at a certain pancake house. Moving to Houston we learned to love the Astros (though leagues changed on me). I had previously been there when the new Astro Dome was first opened. Wow, what a sight to a teen fan. No, I don't recall who won. Years later, my son's claim to fame is he and the son of Nolan Ryan shared the same sitter when they were not much more than toddlers. Baseball, indeed is about memories. Ok, I'll stop rambling. I'm beginning a habit my old uncle had.

Shipping containers are a simple symbol for the promotional of occupational trades. I honestly pray U.S. citizens soon realize it it were not for electricians they could not use their computers or so-called smart phones. Plumbers, builders, wielders, dock workers, warehouse directors, rail and overland transport etc. deserve respect and thanks.
6
Agreed. May I add put God first? It helps with guidance.

@Blckdog Excavator I think one of the many elements I love about Churchill is how as a youth and young man he was an underachiever. Then grew into one of the greatest men of the 20th century.
6
Just in my lifetime (Truman was just before but I'll count him as I caught the end of his term) I'd have to say Truman, Nixon and Ford ended up being significant. I can tell if elected Vance would be a positive man of use in the office.

Have toured the USS Texas years ago. Seems time for a new visit. Come on Texas!

After Dec 31 are we going to observe Old Spice? Sorry, your made that too easy. I remain a black coffee purist. Interesting report although I'm not a pumpkin spice groupie. Thanks for you work. Added: Noticing your New England map, why has Connecticut not simply annexed Rhode Island? Then make Puerto Rico a state.

Thank you for this report. It always amazes me when taught military history the same narrativves are presented over and over. I suppose I simply have an appreciation for the forgotten. More than just the heroes contribute to battles. Worth remembering.
4
Great report, Lance, as usual. Could you offer a piece of Great Mississippi River Flood of 1927, especially it's impact on southern Louisiana. I angerly get tired of people from northern states not understanding why those who live in poverty and tradition cannot simply move over floods and hurricanes. Thanks.
4
Good presentation, as usual. @thehistoryguy wasn't there once an island in the Mississippi River near St. Louis that was known to be the place for duels? Do you think that may be worth an edition? Thank you.

Oh, I remember and loved my grendparent's player piano. It helped me learn to play more than any formal lessons. Unfortunately, I'm now feeling the traits of advancing age and my hands no longer want to cooperate. But I still enjoy a variety of music. Ha. Take that physical bounds. The mind and spirit can always appreciate. Good report.
4
You are not alone, brother. Blessings.
4
Thank you William for your kind words. As a native Texan I live in San Antonio now (was in Fort Worth as a child), but our son and friends in Florida do need prayer for safety an endurance. I join with you in prayer. Be a blessing.
4
Same in return.
4
Very interesting. I suppose that can be described as when men were men no matter what they endure. Could you please profile U.S. General Peyton C. March who was Chief of Staff during WWI, He also wrote the intoduction to "History of the World War" by Francis H. March. My grandfather was a WWI veteran and had this collection, which I now have. I've often wondered more than what is offered on March and March. Is this history that should be remembered?
4
Great report Lance. A was speaking with an Australian friend yesterday and, knowing there will always be wars, we both speculated how many contemporary conflicts would not be taking place had it not been for he seeds of the British Empire during the 19th and early 20th century. I know many are unrelated. With no insult intended for the UK.
4
Thank you for another fine report. Have you noticed we have not heard of any Bermuda Triangle incidents in the past few years? Oh, I really like your shirt. Regards.
4
Thank you for continually educating us with events and facts we should have been told decades ago -- cannot fairly judge 16th-19th century attitudes based on late 20th and 21st century enlightenment -- possibly providing a more inclusive and peaceful culture. Nice thought, huh?
4
Wow. An entirely different perspective of April reality day. Thanks for your work.
4
Perhaps because 70 is getting closer every day, but I wonder if men like Vanderbilt financially rescued their parents from poverty. That said, remember, even today it is the wealthy that provide hundreds of thousands o jobs ... as long as the government stays out of the way.
4
What we see as silly was very serious at the time. It makes me wonder what people a century from now will think of the laws he hold (or lack to inforce) as we have entered well into the 21st century. Good report. ... So everybody sing, "God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong, That you may grow in power and worth, Thro'out the ages long."
4
You are not alone. My wife and her mother came from East Germany. I got to where I could understand that which they were talking about, but cold not hold a conversation. So I'd tell them, "Estás en Texas ahora. Habla español. Ja, ja, ja."
4
I don't blame the people of Nevada on correct pronunciation. It is not like it is the difference of Missouri and Missourauh.
4
I probably would have been guilty of good intentions that worked against me. Oh, that's right I have but here on earth. At this state of life I wear those as a badge of honor.
4
Another excellent report. Say, I always notice that bugle on the wall. Do you think you could produce a report on the significance of buglars? My grandfather was one during combat in World War I. Thus, my selfish request. Thank you.
3
Impressive. All most young men can do today is slap their thumbs on a piece of plastic.
3
I never realized processing so involved. I have whole new appreciation. Thanks.
3
Nice rundown of history for the day. BTW, thank you for self narration. Please never go AI.
3
Absolutely. What happened?! Actually, I as a crossover age in the 1950s between Saturday and later Saturday morning in front of the brand new television (two of three channels came in for us). By then I was old enough to be expected to be out mowing the lawn and other chores before taking off with friends. Oh man, I just realized I am part of history.
3
Please remember, the U.S. did not lose that war (although U.S. families of the dead did). South Vietnam lost when North Vietnam invaded Saigon. Our military was saving lives from the embassy and of Vietnamese civilians. As for war related memories one of my most treasured is having interviewed Whitney Harris as one of the last surviving prosecutors from the Nuremberg Trials.
3
BTW ... shipping containers are being used in some areas to slow the invasion at our southern border. Oh the many unexpected uses of this invention.
3
It always amazes me looking back on history and discovering what activities -- with famous personalities -- were occurring simultaneously. Thank you for this date-to-date report. Perhaps my unintended suggestion in my opening line would make for an interesting episode. What do you think?
3
Thank you for offering your personal knowledge.
3
And tax money. No other state owes Los Angeles County anything. That said, notice how many (yes including Texas) are sending help. Would CA do that for Arizona or Nevada?

@TheHistoryGuyChannel Thanks

Well, sock it to me. I remember being ordered, "change your socks." Great report.
2
Well, something I did not know regarding TR. How did I miss this? Personally, I do not think he deserved the Medal of Honor. Thank you for reporting, Lance.
2
Very good report. Interesting and it helps explain why I was always confused on what constituted the seven seas. I still am trying to determine the difference between sea and ocean other than size. I also always wondered why the Gulf of Mexico was nevered called a sea. Most prople have no idea how large it really is, so that may offer you future material.
2
Very good report. Sad to think folks like we are among the last to have had grandparents and parents tell us of their first hand experiences at such camps. So importand and obscure.
