I'm all for returning to the era where internships, journeymen, and masters levels are learned and earned on the job. The best busiess executives I've known never had an MBA, but they did have an "I started on the loading dock" degree.

  21. As a proud American I cannot help but feel a tug at my heart today with the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. When she came to the throne Harry Truman was president of the United States and I was yet just a few years of being born in Texas. I suppose for many of my generation, especially those who like me have had friends in the U.K., this time seems reasonably personal. She as a young woman rapidly took her place among the Greatest Generation getting her hands peronally involved in the fighting of World War II. She defiled much of the elitism of prior monarchs and the entitlement of younger generations coming into that now ceremonial role. Along with the passing of Ronald Regan in 2004 this feels like a bookend closing of an extraordinary era.
