I was the poorest kid in my school, hands down. Only once in my childhood I got a new pair of shoes, a stranger paid for them when he heard my mum explaining why I couldn't have them.
Being a poor kid, I got targeted by cops, my reaction to it meant I got more attention from them. This created such a deep hatred between me and police. I was already poor, but they would find any excuse to take my money with driving infringements on my 60km round trip to work. It felt targeted, so much so I left the state.
I grew up bouncing between drug houses, attended 7 different schools by year 3. We lived in a tent at times.
As a young adult, I lived in my car, I slept in goodwill bins, I slept under an industrial shed in winter with all my belongings piled on top of me trying to stop the cold seeping down. I've not known where my next meal is coming from more times than I can count.
I'm white.
