@Steelahh
Is it? This award goes to people like Fred Hollows based on a lifetime of selfless work. If in 20 years she has pushed forward, make a foundation, done endless charity, raised true awareness, helped countless people directly... then she would probably be a fantastic candidate. Now? No.
This year the award should have gone to someone (male or female, since you have assumed I’m sexist) from the CFS/MFS, who not only sacrificed during the fires, but has given their life’s work to that cause. Would probably be fitting given we suffered the worst natural disaster in recorded history last year, don’t you think?
Before you say I don’t know shit about her cause, I am a child of abuse, frequent, heavy abuse, not just sexual. Far more savage, frequent, and for a much larger period of time, during a time where it was weak for males to cry or express their feelings in any way. Where you were labelled as gay for such things, even being the victim of this as a pre teen.
Not everyone is a whining asshole out to hate the opposing opinion to theirs, however, I do see this shit as virtue signalling, and to me that is pathetic.

Mate, this is Australian of the year... they give this award to people like Fred Hollows after a lifetime of selfless work helping others.
Of all the things our country went through last year, of all the people who have done a lifetime of work helping others, do you think this child, right now at this point in her life, and this point in time, has done the most for Australia?
Not firefighters? Not someone who has put in 40 years of charity work into the CFS and spent weeks without sleep fighting fires to save houses, wildlife, lives? THEN went on to clean up the damage.... and be paid $0 for it?
Not someone who has spent their life housing children of abuse, offering them real protection, changing their lives?
Reading your paragraph, it seems you are pinning this entirely on men. Well done following the narrative. You even created your own narrative surrounding those who don’t share your opinion.. they must be broken, hateful, sexist men. Seems like a hateful narrative you’re putting out there, mate..
You picked a group of people you don’t like, painted them horribly, and then pinned an opinion on them with no proof to back it up.. seems like a fairly hateful brand of discrimination.. again, well done following the narrative.
Sexual abuse is widespread, surviving it is human, defeating it is personal growth, and I commend it. Neither of these things make you Australian of the year. IF go through these things, THEN go on to put your life’s work into helping others.. you are a candidate for Australian of the year.
