  2. @Mith Ra You’re an ass hat. The car had the choice to merge normally and chose instead to try push in. The car had the option to stop and merge behind, an instead tried to force his way in. The car driver chose this interaction. Complain to politicians about what?

  5. @Mith Ra “The larger your vehicle the more it is your responsibility to give way”.. could you be any more clueless?! Do oil tankers give way to speed boats? The larger the vehicle, the LESS manoeuvreable it is, meaning those in smaller vehicles SHOULD work around the vehicle, not the other way around. The issue is, we have idiots like you who have never driven anything larger than a Prius, telling us how someone driving a heavy vehicle ‘should’ drive.

  7.  Elias Boudinot  Read the road rules, mate. I’m sure you will find rules about merging, and rules about heavy vehicles stopping on freeways that don’t support your position in any way.

  9.  @stylicho  It’s illegal and dangerous. If you’re actually a heavy vehicle operator you would know this. In this situation it’s even worse given the highway is already down to 1 lane. No sane person would pull over there. The lanes on the side are emergency lanes, they’re not for having a chat. As an operator you get countless people expecting you to accomodate them, clueless to how cumbersome a heavy vehicle is, and how dangerous sudden big actions can be. There is an idiot in this thread saying HV’s should give way to all other traffic, I’ve driven things that take 400+ metres to stop, how am I giving way to a car in that? This is the clueless mindset operators face daily. Look, we both know the car should have merged behind, he raced up to cut in, and he didn’t let it go when he should have. LEGALLY he is in the wrong, and as far as being a courteous driver, blasting up the merge lane to get in front of other traffic, is not polite in any situation. I’m sure we can both agree on this as well. We both also know the HV operator should have just let the idiot in, instead of being so stubborn, and I’m sure 99 times out of 100 he would have, this time he went, “you know what, fuck you, buddy”. The situation should have absolutely been handled better by both sides, but you are incorrect with putting the operator at fault. I stopped driving for a job after a merge lane incident where a car intentionally sped up alongside and blocked me from merging when I was already committed with a full load. It was a pig truck, the load is top heavy as it hangs from the ceiling, you can’t make big movements or it will roll. Nowhere to go, I chose to hit parked cars instead of merging over his car, likely resulting in a rollover.

  10.  @stylicho  What kind of imbecile considers a fender bender an ‘emergency’?! Probably the kind who would stop an entire freeway to have an insurance chat. The driver wasn’t patient enough to filter in behind a truck, how patient do you think the endless stream of cars behind them are going to be when the entire freeway stops so Billy bell end can have a chat? This would cause a chaotic and dangerous situation. Like I said, spud.. the emergency lane is there as an absolutely last resort. What do you think happens when a HV’s brakes fail and you’re sitting in that lane like a potato? It’s already a bad situation, now it’s a pile up with multiple fatalities. This is not an emergency, both vehicles are perfectly operable. Move to the next exit and discuss it there so you don’t cause an actual emergency. Blows my mind that this needs explaining to a person who holds a license.

If you want to dispute the definition of 'emergency", call up emergency services and explain to them you've just had a low speed fender bender with no injuries, both vehicles roadworthy, and tell them you require emergency assistance.
