It’s the truth, buddy. I’m not saying it because I’m under 30 and am taking a shot at people over 30.
I’ve experienced the drop in athleticism, but also the drop in recovery, reaction time, savagery, drive, the injuries that don’t go away. We change, the realities of biology force it. It’s not huge, but it is reality. It’s also a bummer to feel yourself lose that half step, especially when you are a competitive person.
Another thing that fades is your will/desire to hurt people. At 25, I’d happily light someone up. Now, you would have to do something pretty wild for me to resort to violence.
The raw emotion and physical conditioning to be a world tier professional athlete in a dangerous sport, is not infinite. It’s a young man’s game, only very rare athletes go longer.
If a sport requires genuine risk to our personal safety, the older we get, the less we are willing to risk, and therefore we lose the edge required to compete at the very top of the sport.
