  2.  @blamberton7893  Every single fighter knows you can’t blast someone in the face with a knee when they’re grounded.. regardless of how you feel about this rule, it exists, and you can’t do it. If you do, you will be penalised. Fighters are responsible for what they throw, and world championship level fighters are held to a high standard, as they should be. You can’t hold the title if you can’t adhere to one of the most prominent and basic rules in the sport. As a world champion, it is expected that you know better. There’s no real discussion about it to be had past the fact you like Yan, and you don’t understand the sport. Btw, without the rule you’re so upset about, fights wouldn’t be sanctioned. The sport would still be in back yards. Also, no, not every governing body has different rules. The UFC has standardised rules, the only tweak is the grounded opponent rule, with the old version of it being filtered out.. regardless, in either of the versions of the rule, this was a foul. No excuses for ‘not knowing’. Can I ask why you want to see soccer kicks to the head of grounded opponents? This isn’t the thunderdome, champ. A professional athlete soccer kick someone in the head on the ground with power and precision is just asking for permanent brain damage or death.

Pride was crazy, but it’s gone, along with leg strikes to the head of downed opponents (and rampant steroid use). Firstly because no governing body will sanction it, secondly because we understand the health implications of allowing it, and thirdly because (most of us) don’t need to see it. There are fighter I dislike, I still don’t want to see them get blasted in the head while downed. The new unified rules were a necessary change and remove the ability for a fighter to just touch the mat and avoid knees. Regardless of ALL this.. they’re the rules of the sport, fighters know the rules under which they compete and are responsible for their weapons.. it was a blatant foul, end of.
