  1. baking powder is not a good mixer unless you're trying to freebase it. if you sniff it, the cocaine and baking soda will combine in the solution of moisture in your nose, and then crash out of solution as insoluble freebase cocaine (crack). crack can't go up your nose without first being turned into a salt with an acid. just like sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid make table salt, any acid plus base makes a salt that is soluble in water. the thin coating on the inside of your nose is water-based, so salts can dissolve in it and then pass through the cell walls, molecule by molecule. the only reason people turn cocaine into the free-base (crack) is to smoke it. the free-base form of cocaine vaporizes at a lower temperature, but breaks down at a higher temperature. that makes smoking it more efficient. in its salt form, which is best for sniffing, it vaporizes at such a high temperature that half of the cocaine breaks down from the heat, making it far less efficient to smoke. you can use NaOH(edit: or often baking soda) and HCl to switch it from one form to the other, but you need pH strips and titration equipment and knowledge. obviously i've never done this myself, but i study chemistry and psychopharmacology lol
