  1. Giant Pandas are omnivors that regressed to a niche herbivores (Red Pandas are not related, they are a mustelid which the Giant Pandas are not).They are like koalas. This comparison is valid. Koalas are similar to wombats who took to eucalyptus trees to eat a specialised and fairly toxic diet (eucalyptus leaves are full of aromatic oils and toxic xylene). Wombats eat a wide variety of ground herbage and roots in comparison to Koalas.
