  1. I'm not really suprised by the discussion topics of the American banker when working in China with Chinese business partners and ex-pats. Why people thought that a totalitarian system based on Marxism-Leninism would be somehow open and straightforward is beyond me. Mind you, although i now know quite a bit about China, 10 years ago i was absolutely ignorant of it, except for some of the bad times of Mao Zedong. Like a lot of people, i was lulled into believing China was changing for better back in the 1990s and early 2000s, partially because i was told this by journalists back then. How wrong we all were.
