The deadliest snake in Australia is the Eastern Brown Snake (Pseudonaja textalis). This highly venomous elapid snake is quite common in Eastern and Central Australia (except extreme desert and rainforest regions). It's not an aggressive snake; I've met a few during bushwalking mostly. Usually it flees humans if it has an escape route; it tries going down holes and cracks in rocks to escape us for example. Another myth about snakes is that they flee you when they feel your foot fall vibrations on the ground. Snakes don't flee from that, only if they see you. The Eastern Brown is the most deadly, because it is one of the most likely snakes encountered by people on the well populated Eastern side of Australia. Like all snakes, don't handle it (if you're not a trained snake handler) or try to kill it. That's when many bites happen. Anyway, most native Australian snakes are protected wildlife.

Most spiders, snakes and so on don't want to envenom you. Their venom is for their prey, not for you. They only envenom you because of fear and proximity. Often bites are dry. It's a warning.
