The potato blight was particularly awful for the irish population where hundreds of thousands miserably starved to death. But in Scotland, which similarily relied on potatoes for staple foods and whose population were similarly affected by potato blight, there were only a few hundred deaths. I think in Scotland, there was a better program of famine relief than in Ireland.
