Keely was a fraudster in a time when Edison, Tesla and Westinghouse were doing their thing. Unlike Keely, none of these men were out-and-out fraudsters, but Edison was a great self-promoter (as was Tesla later), and Edison had noteriety of being a copiest and a plagiarist (he stole other men's inventions, and called it his own. Including Telsla's.).
