Nevertheless, DeepSeek will turn out to be DeepSuck once many Western users can compare it to other AI platforms. This really doesn't matter much to the CCP; they have uploaded the user data (like Tiktok) to their massive database. A "Sputnik" moment turned out to be irrelevant after a few years, when Sputnik was actually launched into orbit (where it caused strong furore in the US) until more Western satellites went up a few years later. Nevertheless, the Soviet Union was ahead in the Space Race at that time. Deep Seek is a substandard AI program, because it's copied from Western AI algorithms and modified to be censorious. When has any censorship been good? China is not advanced to the West in IT. It is told and believed by many that it is. Some of this "panic moment" is drama; the US military (who has high stakes in AI) and Silicon Valley want the Congress and Senate politicians to cough up more money directed to them over this moment of panic.
