  1. Castle Bravo was in fact, the second thermonuclear explosion test in history (but the first using lithium deuteroxide as primary nuclear explosive). The Castle Bravo bomb design are now the basis of modern thermonuclear weapons.The first thermonuclear explosion in history was Ivy Mike, detonated in November 1952. This bomb design was not subsequently used because if its impractical design of several tonnes of cyrogenic liquid deuterium. The yeild from Ivy Mike (unlike Castle Bravo) was as expected, and the wind was in the "right" direction. However, the Ivy Mike bomb would have had fallout from it's unexploded fission detonator and daughter products, as well as contaminated water and pulverized coral.
