  1. The Ismus of Kra in Thailand is also a very sought after area vis-a-vis the Thai government and the CCP. If a sea canal is built here (and fortunately this seems increasingly to be unlikely for political reasons), this will enable the CCP to circumnavigate the Straights of Malacca and avoid a choke point. The status quo is that the Indian and allied navies could blockade the Straight of Malacca to prevent the PLAPN and CCP commerce ships from transiting through there.
