Combustion or ICE engines are not going away; it's basically two things; power over weight ratio and energy potential per kilogram. The engines near the top of this list (reciprocating engines) is diesel; yes diesel. Second are petrol engines. A poor third are EVs. Why? Energy potential per kg; diesel is the best. Lithium batteries rely on electrolysis reactions between a cathode and anode, which has less energy productivity than combustion. Hence, lithium is light (and reactive), but it can't produce the power over weight ratio of diesel (or petrol). Want to know how heavy an EV battery is? Over 700 kg. Another thing that reduces efficiency is weight of a vehicle. Ĺastly, EVs are NOT green. They require a lot of energy to charge such a huge battery and that's off the electricity grid. Despite Germany's building renewable power plants like wind generators, most electricity is still produced by the fossil fuels; coal and gas. So where does the CO2 emmissions go? Not out of the exhaust pipe, but from the chimney stack of a power plant. So they (the politicians and bureaucrats) lie to you about EVs and continue to subsidize this inefficent non-green industry. Vested interests and dumb policies assist this woeful state of affairs.
