  1. The CCP always operatives a "Potemkin Village" perspective over many of it's major projects. It's this competitiveness, showiness and lack of accountabilty that makes many projects unfeasible, expensive and a massive money loss (the HST is a glaring example of hugely wasted funds and little benefits for ordinary Chinese, but not the only one). 5G is another, however this project has hidden (less visible) or diffuse infrastructure, so the CCP can again conveniently lie about "China being so great about this", when the reality is the other way.

  2. Launching lots of mini and micro communications statellites with ground mobile uses will be competitive with the service and infrastructure costs by a complete 5G ground networks by the sounds of it. You would need a lot less satellites for one thing.
