  2. The PLAAN at sea are neither professional nor brave. They were completely outclassed by the Indian Navy in apprehending hijacked cargo ships in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea by armed pirates. The Indian Navy don't have superior technology to the PLAAN (maybe), but they have far better trained personnel and a superior rapid response command structure. This makes an enormous difference in capabilites.

If a Virginia class nuclear sub was able to get within 6 nautical miles of a PLAAN carrier group without detection; it is well within torpedo range of this submarine (which is 40 kilometres. 6 n.m. is only 11.1km off). If the sub wanted to attack these ships, many would be sunk including the carrier. This kind of shows up the poor capabilites of ASW in the PLAAN operations..
