  1. The Russian-Ukrainian Cold War era carriers are not supercarriers. They rate in capabilities under the RN Queen Elizabeth class carriers, with inferior number and quality of planes (the RN carriers are now using F-35 multirole warplanes). At the beginning of the Pacific War (1941-1945), Japan had more and superior planes and torpedoes to the USN at the time and double the number of carriers in the Pacific at the beginning of the conflict. USN Lexington class carriers carried more planes, but carrier warplanes (except the Douglas Dauntless diver bomber) were inferior to the IJN at the beginning of the war. The important naval battle of Midway was a lucky win for the USN.
