  1. The CCP and PLA adopts a strategy of secrecy, like the Soviet Union did, without the plausible avionics superiority that the Soviets may have generated themselves in that era. Particularly early in the Cold War (the MIG-15 during the Korean War for example. Superior to most Western made fighters and equal to the F-86 Sabre at the time). Truth is that the technological gap between the West and the Soviet Union during the Cold War is less than it is now, between the US and China. The CCP can only strive to copy leading US arms technology. It doesn't seem to be able to develop indigenous design arms technology of it's own like the Soviet Union did. Particularly in aircraft. The Soviets also had quality issues with their Cold War armaments (as did the US at that time), but not quite to the extent of corruption in manufacturing and procurement that the PLA/PLAAF and PLAAN has now. CCP China thus cannot compete with the US in the quality of it's arms (and the quality of training), and is already behind the 8-ball at the start, if it wants to launch a major war. This is despite wide scale industrialisation of China for the past 25 years. This does not mean NATO should be complacent. The CCP/PLA applies propaganda well.

  2. The CCP does not give a s**t about ordinary Chinese. Only the dumb nationalists there believe the propaganda of the CCP. However, as a totalitarian state, they are prepared to waste the lives of millions of their own people for no military gain. It's a criminal act that the West can't compete with. We've stopped tolerating huge military losses for nothing since World War 1.
